General FAQs
How does Village Wardrobe work?
Village Wardrobe is a peer-to-peer clothing rental platform where neighbors can rent high-quality clothing from each other. You browse our curated collection, request a rental, and pick it up at one of our partnered local dry cleaners. Once your rental period is over, return the item to the same dry cleaner and we’ll handle the rest.
Why do you partner with dry cleaners?
We’re committed to supporting local small businesses while creating a seamless rental experience. Dry cleaners help us ensure items are clean and ready for pickup at convenient, walkable locations.
Can I purchase items that I’m renting?
We currently don't support purchases. However, if you're interested in purchasing an item, email us at hello@villagewardrobe.com and we'll see what we can do!
How do I submit feedback or ask a question?
Email us at hello@villagewardrobe.com or send us a message on instagram (@village.wardrobe). We’re always looking to improve, so don't hesitate to reach out!
Is this available outside Boston?
Right now, we're only piloting Village Wardrobe in Boston in select neighborhood dry cleaners. If you're in another city and want to bring Village Wardrobe to your neighborhood, fill out our interest form! Join our email newsletter and give us a follow on instagram (@village.wardrobe) or tiktok (@villagewardrobe) for updates.
Renting FAQs
Where do I pick up and return the clothing?
You pick up and return your rental at one of our participating dry cleaner locations. Each item listing includes the designated drop-off/pick-up location. You must return the item at the same dry cleaner location where you picked up your item.
How long can I keep a rental?
Each rental is for a 4-day period. You’ll return it to the same dry cleaner by the agreed return date. Email us at hello@villagewardrobe.com if you need extra time and we’ll do our best to accommodate. If the item is kept longer than the rental period, late fee charges may apply.
How do I pay?
You’ll receive a secure Stripe payment link once your rental request is approved. Payment must be completed before pickup, so no need to pay when you arrive at the dry cleaner. We accept all major credit cards.
Do I need to clean the items before returning them?
No, we’ll handle the cleaning! Simply drop off your item at the same dry cleaner you picked up the item at and it will be professionally cleaned. The cost of cleaning is included in the rental price. If you accidentally damage the item during your rental (marks, stains, tears, etc.), please inform us at hello@villagewardrobe.com as soon as possible so we can help!
Can I try something on before I rent it?
At this time, our pilot does not include fitting appointments. However, each item includes detailed sizing and fit notes to help you choose confidently. If your item does not end up fitting, please reach out to us at hello@villagewardrobe.com and we’ll do our best to give you a refund!
Can I cancel my rental?
If you want to cancel your rental, please reach out to hello@villagewardrobe.com and we will refund you up to 48 hours before the rental start date. Please note, rentals cancelled within 48 hours of the rental start date are non refundable as we’ve already started the cleaning process.
Do you accept returns or refunds?
Because each rental is time-sensitive and demand-based, all rentals are final once you’ve picked up the item. If you experience any sizing or quality issues, reach out at hello@villagewardrobe.com and we’ll do our best to help and refund when appropriate. All lenders should have accurate sizing and fit information to help you make the best decision when renting.
Lending FAQs
Can I list my items to rent out?
Yes! We’re currently accepting new lenders for our pilot in Boston. If you’re local and have clothing you’d like to rent out, please fill out our Interest Intake Form. We’ll reach out with our Lender Intake Form where you can tell us details about the items you want to rent out.
If you're located elsewhere, join our Lender Waitlist by filling our our interest form with your location and we'll notify you when we expand to your city.
